Interested in Becoming a Tutor?

Pathway Tutoring is a peer tutoring program which means we need tutors to sign up and help us volunteer. There are no formal requirements to be a tutor but we do want our tutors to at least be from a PSD highschool. We are working with Hispanic/Latino students but that doesn't mean that you have to be bilingual or Hispanic/Latino. In fact two of our cofounders are not bilingual. The sessions are held at any one of the libraries in Fort Collins. We are working with PSD Future Ready Tutoring, and we are expected to be able to have the Foothills mall as a space as well. If you do sign up, we don't require you to work a certain amount; at the end of the day how much time you devote to this is up to you! We have noticed that once people sign up, they want to devote a lot more time than they expected to give. There are many incentives and reasons as to why you should sign up to be a tutor!

How does it work?

The process is very simple!

  1. First sign up via the registration form linked at the bottom of the page. You will be asked a few questions that will allow us find a student that best matches you!

  2. 2nd, after you fill out the form, we will reach out to you to see your personal schedule and then we will pair you with your student.

  3. After that we ask that you download WhatApp (most Hispanic families use this), so that we can add you to a group chat between the student, the parent, and the bilingual facilitator

  4. Finally, we chat with you and the parent to setup our first few tutoring sessions and then you go out to tutor!!!

Incentives
  • IB hours and Honor Society hours: We are a non-profit volunteer program, which means that any of our volunteers are doing community service, and are thus entitled to receiving hours for any kind of program that requires them. We are working with different school programs so that our program can be recognized as a legitimate source of hours and community service requirements. We have already been a source for people that need IB hours if you are part of that program.

  • College Applications: If you are thinking of applying to college, you probably already know the importance that extracurriculars play in making yourself stand out as an applicant. Volunteering is a great extracurricular, and people do things like honor societies in order to get volunteering done. The problem is that people often overstate how much a college really considers things like participation in an honor society even if it means that you do volunteering. Volunteering for a specialized program like Pathway that has no formal association with a school, is a much more unique and fun way to volunteer. In our opinion, it  looks way better on an application!

  • Cultural Experience: Many new tutors might feel intimidated by the fact that they might be working with people who might not be able to speak English, but we have seen that this actually is one of the more exciting aspects of our program! We will have facilitators that will help you navigate communication so don't worry if your Spanish isn't great. Additionally, we have seen the impact that having people from different cultures work together in setting up tutoring sessions has led to fantastic learning experiences and an environment to learn new things for both the tutors, the students, and the parents!

  • Leadership Opportunity: Our goal is to have Pathway Tutoring continue to be a program long after our founders leave for college. As such we need new leaders who are willing to step up and have a significant role in organizing and leading the program. Our founder, Adrian, and one of our cofounders, Josh, are leaving for college next year and as such, we need two more people to fill a leadership role in our team. While we will have Karen and Sam step up as the lead directors, we will need two more people to act as directors and fill in those important leadership roles. That is why at the end of the year, we will be selecting our two most devoted and outstanding tutors to take important leadership positions for next year! This is something that would look great on a college application!
